Curriculum statement

We follow the National Curriculum – with a sequence of learning carefully planned to build on previous learning and meet the needs of our community.

We have lessons dedicated to English. Maths, Science, Art, Design Technology, History and Geography, Computing, Music, PE and personal, social, health and citizenship education.

In Key stage 2 we also learn French. Religious Education is taught following the approved East Riding syllabus.

Our five key drivers are:

  • Academic readiness- developing basic foundations – learning, social and emotional skills from the start as a basis for future learning, taking this through school so that pupils are then ready to make the most of all the opportunities at High school and wide aspirations for future careers. A solid emphasis on developing sound basic reading, writing and mathematical knowledge and skills.
  • Restorative behaviour – children building up successful relationships, taking responsibility for their actions,
  • Character building – children to be resourceful, resilient, able to reason and reflect on their learning. Having a positive mindset and positive relationships to make positive contributions to their community.
  • Being socially and emotionally secure so children have healthy minds and bodies, know how to keep personally safe within our community
  • Wider experiences – developing a wider perspective beyond our coastal town and village boundaries, an awareness of our place within a global society and an appreciation of the diversity of British society.
